Today I noticed something kind of cool. David has a tendency to just come up to me and hang out. If I'm laying on a bed he will eventually be there laying by my side. Or if I am sitting in a chair he will end up on my lap. He's just there. He enjoys being in contact with me and talking with me about anything and everything. He is really an impressive child and sweet as they come. That is, until you succumb to that sweetness and allow him to watch an extra 20 minute cartoon and he has been up so late that he turns into a grumpy bear cub.
I've been sick the last few days. So I've stayed home and isolated myself in the guest room downstairs for the most part. The kicker is that I had planned a huge weekend. I was going to take Mackay on a dAddie date to Oklahoma for a Pilot Training Graduation and then to Minneapolis for a visit to his cousin's house. It was sad when I couldn't make the trip, I really had been looking forward to it for a very long time.
But since we had planned to keep Mackay home he asked to stay home anyway. Normally I wouldn't have acquiesced to such a request but his mother convinced me. Apparently his grade was having a big event at school and after the event the school was asking parents to take kids home after anyhow. The trade off with his mother was that he had to clean the kitchen and have a talk with me that he would have received at school. It was a Maturation talk. So we did. We sat down for nearly two hours. Grandma Susie happened to stop by and so she joined in as a grandma and nurse to help explain some of the more biological side of it all. I was very impressed by Mackay. He was quite mature and asked some great questions. It was pretty no holds barred and since he knew it was coming he was very open to the discussion. Pretty crazy.
