Since Foot Loose was filmed in Lehi Utah, if you attend a dance here does that count as putting you within the seven degrees of Kevin Bacon? If so BG has a new trivia fact he can brag about around a campfire.
Michelle and I spent the day unpacking boxes in the basement and trying to organize things to make it a little more comfortable around the house. Eventually we got cleaned up and drove to Brigham's school at 2pm. He was participating in his very first dance.
He's been practicing different types of dance in PE for the last few weeks and today was the payoff. The PTA brought refreshments, the parents were invited to attend and there was a teacher directing the whole production. They went between boys choice and girls choice. They danced a box step, a cha-cha, a waltz, a swing and a line dance. There was nervous trepidations, sweaty palms, anxiously held breath; and not just from all the mothers on the sidelines.
For the very first song Brigham jumped up and made a pretty straight shot for a cute little lady with dark brown hair and glasses named Kira. He knew where his mother and I were seated and therefore took his belle to the farthest most corner of the gym from us. We'd get glimpses every so often between the swaying couples of the two of them embraced and failing to make any eye contact at all as the box stepped to the beat of a slow song.
For the next song a cute little blonde girl with long beautiful hair asked him to dance a foxtrot. The swirling and swinging was just cute enough and just awkward enough that his mother and I were grateful to be there to witness it.
Kira came back later, for a girls choice; I don't think Brigham minded that much. Later while on the bus and waiting to depart, she walked by. His friends rolled down the window and called out to her professing Brigham's undying devotion to her--for him. He refuted the fact publicly but secretly was kind of happy they had the courage he didn't.
I was proud of Brigham. During this whole dance he never failed to seize an opportunity to ask a girl onto the floor. He also looked great in his brand new deacon suit that Meema got him for his birthday.
After school, we met the Kristensen's along with Grandma Susie and Aunt Kellie at the super nice theater just down the road from us and watched The Lego Movie 2. It was a lot of fun. One of the traditions those kids have always had is to go down to the bottom and dance to the music during the credits. However, this time they all went to the top of the theater and did shadow puppets in front of the projector. They are becoming more a bit self conscious and hesitant to dance in public but SJ, Mackay and Ava still like to do it.
We all came over to our house afterword to play a couple rounds of Boxers or Briefs on our super expanding table, eat a bowl of ice cream and just hang out. What a great thing to be able to do all this in one day with such great people. Good job BG, thanks for sharing today with us.
