I got to go home this last weekend. It was a four day break from simulators and classes because of Columbus Day. I had a great time. We took family pictures on the beach, Mackay tested for another degree on his black belt, we did tasks around the house. We watched a ton of conference. We wrestled Blondies. We just spent a lot of time together. It was fantastic.
Sunday night before I went to bed I looked at the forecast. The storm down in the Gulf of Mexico was merely a tropical storm bordering on a Cat 1 and moving over toward the bend of Florida. Michelle and I got up at 4:30 to go to the airport when I checked the forecast again. It had moved to a solid Cat1, maybe a Cat2 and was leaning more towards the west. By the time I got to Oklahoma City it was bordering on a Cat4 and aimed at Destin and Panama City.
We spent a significant time talking about what to do and how to stay safe and ultimately in an abundance of caution Michelle, Connie, Gene and the Blondies all jumped in the car and drove north to Birmingham Alabama where they spent a couple of days at the temple and the Children's Science Museum.
Yesterday Hurricane Michael did land on Florida. It hit pretty hard with winds over 150 knots. It was a solid Cat4 and barely missed the threshold of being a Cat5 by 2 knots. It was pretty crazy and did some terrible things to Panama City. I hope those people can recover. My friends Paul, Jimmy, Burke and Clay have all helped by checking on our house or putting up boards. It's quite a community of good friends we have in Florida.
So that's it. Michelle is on her way home right now. Everything is going to be just fine. Thought I'd just make a note of this.
