The boys and I have been trucking along here in Texas this November. They have been going to school and playgroups and the backyard. I have been taking the boys to school/playgroups/backyard, finishing our house to get it ready to sell and helping Adam with a few papers for his masters. We have been keeping busy as best we can. But on Tuesday of this past week, we (meaning me) decided to change the scenery a bit and hit the road to Ft Worth--just for fun.
When we got to Ft Worth, our first order of business was of course to ride the miniature train at Trinity Park. We have ridden the train several times and my boys love love love it. They could probably ride the train every day and not get bored. It was a beautiful fall day, we had a great ride and even got a family picture on the train. After that, we attempted to go to the zoo--which did not work for a number of reasons. So we ate lunch in the parking lot and drove around the big freight yard for a little bit to let Mackay take a rest in the car.
And then the real fun began. Once I was able to get off the freeway on the right exit and turn on the correct frontage road and make sure I was going in circles in the correct direction and click my heals twice together, we made it to the land of childhood milk and honey--Toys R Us. The boys had the most glorious time walking around and looking at all of the toys. Those who know my boys really well are probably thinking, "Are you crazy to take YOUR wild and crazy boys into a place like that!?!?!?" but they actually did awesome. We had a great time looking at trains and playing with little animals and dancing to the cool tunes on the big cars. My favorite moment was when I had to take the boys with me into the ladies bathroom and Brig said, after a little bit, "What is that smell?" I wanted to say, "It wasn't me" but I thought the lady in the stall next to us would have taken great offense--meaning more than she probably already did.
I got to see a lot of beautiful fall colors on the drive to and from. On the way home, I got to talk to Adam and my brother Tom while the boys chilled in the back with chocolate milk, chicken nuggets and a video. I sometimes struggle with being a mom because I feel like a pretty crappy one most days, but I am so grateful for my two little boys. They are great company for me and they make me laugh and cry and laugh and cry all day long. I love them both very much. Someday we will look back on all of these crazy memories and smile when we remember the time we drove all the way to Ft Worth just to ride the tiny train.

I totally understand about being a mom....but you are a great mom and I admire that you are sacraficing so much for us as well as Adam is for our country. You are making a much bigger influence then you know. Keep up the great work.
Sarah
We are so glad you guys joined us for Thanksgiving! The next day Levi said to me, "Mom I liked that guy who came over with the white hair." When I started asking names, sure enough, it was Brigham. We LOVED having you guys over and hope we can get you to come over for dinner again sometime. :)
I completely understand about the mom business too... and I couldn't agree more with Sarah above. You are great and we all really respect and admire all you do!
Sounds like the boys had a great time, and you're a GREAT mom!! Way more fun than me - I won't dance with my kids (unless no one else can see ;) ) and you do! Daniel would LOVE to ride on a train, hopefully someday we can find one somewhere like that. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and that Adam is back before you know it! When do you move? I can't remember if you're going to Little Rock or not?
Chelle, I love you! What a woman to drive two little boys all that way for a train and Toys R Us. I doubt I would have had the strength.
Thanks for your thoughts. I am feeling like a super "crappy" mom today, as you so eloquently put it. I needed to hear this. It's nice to know that even incredible mothers like you feel that way.
Speaking of "crappy"...nice bathroom story. :)
Everything's been said...ditto to all the other comments. This post made me smile...the life of a mom (I cannot imagine having Ian gone as much as Adam is...you rock).
I also say ditto to all the above comments...and that if you are a "crappy" mom, then I am the "scum of the earth crappiest" mom! You are awesome! And, I am excited that you will be in Utah! I really, really want to get together after you're here and settled...so we can see how much trouble my girls and your boys can get into together...and talk about how hard it is to be a mom!
Next time you are in Fort Worth you need to call me!!!! I would have taken my boys to ride the tiny train too!!
