2nd In My Age Group

I did something amazing this weekend.  Maybe not for you and maybe not for a lot of people out there but for me this was amazing.  I ran in my first organized road race, a small 10K here in Abilene.

I suppose that's not really a big deal...last month I ran my first 6 miles that weren't on a basketball court or in a military formation and I began bragging to a friend, "That's right, 6 miles and I probably walked another 3/4 in the cool down." to which he replied.  "I ran 10 this morning.  No big deal"  He's the guy I ran with in this race; his name wasn't Stormy but I could hear her saying it too.

I have one of those to do lists.  Things to do before I die lists.  I've jumped out of airplanes, swam with dolphins, sailed in a bay, backpacked through Europe, flown solo, and then eventually logged combat hours in Baghdad.  I've released sea turtles in the Indian ocean, earned a spot in a university, climbed the miraculous Rocky Mountains, watched the sun rise on Ipanema, gone running on the beach in Kenya, climbed the Cristo, been married in the temple and seen my boys births.  These things aren't particularly spectacular and I know others have done more with their lives.  But these are things I've done because I wanted to.  They help define and expand me as a person everyday.  I presume that everyone has a list like this.  Less of a To Do list - because those are fickle dreams rarely ever accomplished (I have one of those too).  But rather a Been Done list.  Running a race was a goal, a stepping stone.  Someday I'll run more, much more and I'll reach goals like this to say that I did.  Not at all for this blog, but for me.  I hope you do too.
