Mackay Musing

Mackay to his aunt Kimberly when she asked how old he was: "I'm five (holding his hand out to show her how many five is)  I don't have to tuck my thumb any more!"

Yesterday we went to a college basketball game.  It was a post season tournament with the one and only USAFA vs. Weber State University.  Everyone dressed for the Academy except blondie #2.  He was going to cheer for the wildcats who taught him how to swim no matter the cost.  During a slow part of the game Waldo the Wildcat was trying to keep it interesting by going up into the stands delivering pizzas to whoever made the biggest fool of themselves.  Did I mention Michelle married a fool? and then did a damned fool thing and had three kids with him?  Brigham really wanted that pizza and so he yelled very loud, so did all the rest of the fools.  And sure enough the wildcat came up our aisle and stopped right in front of us.  He made sure to push through everyone in blue however, to ensure that the one Weber fan amongst us got the pizza.  Mackay has never been so proud of his aunt KK's school.

He cheered rather bluntly.  I stopped counting how many times he said, "i hate the Academy" or "Boooo falcons" or "this school sucks."  He really had it in for the place, which makes me think he's going to be a really good cadet someday.  So at the end of the game I said to him, "Mack, it appears that Weber won and since you are such a huge Wildcat fan you are not going to be allowed into our car for the trip home.  You're going to have to walk, but it's not too far -- only 6 or 7 miles."  He thought about it for a while and couldn't decipher the jest in my tone so he teared up and said, "well I guess I'll have to walk without my family then."  I did make that right.

Every year as a family we fill out brackets for March Madness.  Like everyone else ours are junk by now but when Mack filled his out he used the best method I've see yet.  He'd hear a team name and free-associate it with whatever came to mind making his winning selection based on how much he liked or disliked the associated result.  Which explains why Michigan State is going to the Elite Eight - "I want to be a missionary some day."  The Duke Blue Devils didn't get out of the second round - "Devils like Sayy Ten and I don't like them."  And that Temple had their deepest run in 40 years - "I picked Temple because I like Jesus Christ."  An unabashed testimony borne out through March Madness.

Oh man, you guys have so much fun! You must laugh 85% of the time, I'm certain the other 15% is spent in frustration (if your boys are anything like mine) :)
