Today it wasn't however.
This morning at eleven o'clock we went to our little church house at the Creekside Ward and a rather large contingent of priesthood holders in the family surrounded our child and gave him a blessing. It was sort of traditional in that sense. But let me tell you something, as the father holding this kid in my arms I have to say that this was special. If not between myself and David we will always have this moment together.
I have a problem when I pray, I don't close my eyes very often. So I didn't really in this one either. After I got through the first part of the prayer I looked down and my little boy and discovered that he has pretty much the same problem. We looked at each other completely locked on for the next couple of minutes. He'd occasionally coo and smile but he kept his eyes on mine almost as if communicating with me.
I don't remember everything I said but I do know something--as I looked in his eyes I could see and feel something about this child. Something I didn't know before, the veil was very thin. Davie has been in our family for a very long time. He has known and loved his brothers for longer than I can imagine and it's no coincidence that the three are here together with us now.
I could feel his love and his excitement to be on earth finally.
David Taft is brilliant, he is wonderful and he is special. I could see all that today in a way that only could happen to a father in a a special moment like a child's blessing. He is my son and I am grateful for that.
