Missionary Arms

For family home evening the other night Adam was relaying the story of Ammon and the sheep to the boys. For those of our friends not of our faith, this is a story found in the Book of Mormon where Ammon, a young Nephite missionary, pledges to serve a Lamanite King (rival tribe) to show his humility and loyalty. During the process of his service Ammon is required to protect the king's sheep from a band of robbers by cutting off the arms of the bad guys. The king is impressed with the devotion and work ethic of Ammon and begins to see him as a hard working and loyal person and not as a hateful enemy.

So Adam was telling this story to the boys while holding up a picture of a very strong and sword wielding Ammon surrounded by sheep and ready to attack the oncoming bad guys. Calvin was continuing to play with whatever toy he has found on the floor that has captured his attention for that moment but Brigham is just staring back and forth between his dad and the picture with a look of peaked interest.

After the story was over, I asked Brig is he was excited to serve a mission someday. He rather quickly replied, "Yes and I am going to sword all of the bad guy's arms off." Heck yes I want to go on a mission if I get a sword. Sweet. He is all boy.

Calvin's language has exploded in the past few weeks and some of the things he says are very funny. Most of the things he says are in response to his brother. While they are playing with toys, he is most often heard to say, "Be nice Briggie. Be nice."

Yesterday the boys were painting water colors at the table and Calvin spent more than half of the time watching his brother's painting and saying, "Good job Briggie, good job." Thanks little mommy.

We just have our fingers crossed that Calvin does not have an ear for bad words like his brother--or maybe mom and dad should just be more careful with what they say.

Maybe.
