Growing Pains

Brigham is getting to be such a big boy that it startled me a little the other day when he asked to put on his dad's flight suit and boots and I saw just how much growing he still has ahead of him. Them some big shoes to fill.

Not 30 minutes after the above photo shoot I got an unwanted but encouraging look at just how brave and mature a little man can be at 2 3/4 years old. He was playing hard and running in and out of the living room when the doorway was bumped, a cast iron eagle fell from above and hit Brigham in the middle of his hard head. First ER visit here we come.

Now I am not one for blood, but especially when it is streaming out of the head and down the face of my son. After the bleeding stopped, I started running around the house trying to get everything together for Mack to spend time at a friend's house and Brig/mommy to head to the hospital. During this time, Brigham is following me around and talking about the "seagull that bunked me on the head." He had found the "seagull" and was telling me he had unloaded his repertoire of punishments on him (don't judge me by the punishments my 2 year-old son came up with): first he hit the seagull, then he told the seagull he made a bad choice, he put the seagull on time out and finally he gave the seagull a stern talking to. After all of this and when we were heading out the door, Brigham was very happy to tell me that he put the "seagull" in the bathroom for a quiet time. But the part that really made me smile was when Brig told me that he gave the seagull some toys and a snack to keep him busy during this bathroom time.

Brigham and I got to the ER after dropping off Mackay and I was not sure what to expect from my loud and rambunctious little man. I have to say that for the entire 2+ hours we were there, between all of the sitting around in the waiting room, checking in, sitting around in the waiting room some more, and everything that happened back in the exam room, Brigham was a big giant boy. He listened to the things I told him. He did not cry or scream or throw a fit. When the doctors came in a stapled his head back together (just one staple) he barely even flinched. He was such a big and brave boy. The doctors were really impressed with how well he handled everything and his mom equally if not more impressed. It was an encouraging grown up moment in my crazy toddler filled world.

So Brigham has one staple in his head. The eagle got his quiet time and is on his way to a local recyling bin. The first 'child to the ER' experience is checked off and went rather well. The staple has not slowed down Brigham one bit--he went to school and the pumpkin patch the next day. And life is back to normal with two blond and growing boys.

If you look hard you can see Brig's staple--little dark spot in the middle of his head. I do have to say that I was really glad it was not bad enough that they needed to shave his head. That would have made me cry even more.

Oh--man we haven't had an ER trip yet (knock really loudly on wood). Glad Brig was such a trooper. Aren't you so thankful for friends who take care of your kiddos especially in an emergency situation?

YAY for two weeks until Adam gets home! When ever I get feeling lonely--I think about you and know we'll make it. We moms always survive somehow. I cannot imagine Ian being gone for that long at a time! You are so strong. I bet you are on the countdown. Brig looks adorable in that flight suit--bet it makes his daddy smile.

We were at the ER not long ago too. So glad everything's OK now, those head wounds bleed like crazy. You look great in that photo by the way! So much fun!

Oh wow. What an afternoon for you. I'm glad he is fine now. The quiet time for the seagull is really cute, especially the toys to keep him company. Adorable.

It's so good to see you again!

I'm wanting to know... who/what did you blur out in the pumpkin patch picture?

I think I've read this entry now like four times. Brig and Asher are so close in age I just kept imagining this same event happening to Asher. I was quite impressed when he said the eagle "made a bad choice". Props to you guys.
Love you Brigham. Hope your owie feels better. Sounds like you were pretty brave! Awesome job little guy.
