We have not been feeling well at our house for several days--quarantined for 3 1/2 days to be exact--and still counting because I don' think we are out of the woods yet. This has been the meanest bout of flu our little family has ever had--in a really long time. I took Calvin Mackay in for his 18 month check-up Thursday afternoon and walked out with a script for Briggie B to go on Tamiflu. Now let me set the record straight that we are not talking about the H1N1 kind; we are talking about the nastiest bout of "my kid's hanging out with too many other kids--welcome to the wonderful world of germ sharing" flu we have yet to experience. I remember as a teacher sometimes thinking I could physically feel the germs crossing through the air and entering my body when face to face with a kindergartner with green mocos and a nasty cough.
But I digress in thinking about the good old days when I could send the snot nosed kids home after 3-6 hours. My 24/7 Brigham was my chosen child put on the meds because his symptoms were newer and the pediatrician thought they would benefit him more than Mackay who was already on his way to getting better. The prescription for Tamiflu called for me to empty the capsule of medicine into ice cream twice a day for 5 days--easy enough. So that worked great for that first night, worked pretty well the next morning, worked so so the following night and then my little genius of a 2 3/4 year-old figured out what was going on and would not eat the contaminated food anymore. He could taste the medicine and decided he was not interested in having any part of that particular ice cream/yogurt/smoothie. It is a little known fact that Brig is akin to Napoleon Dynamite in his taste deciphering skills after just one sip. "This tastes like the cow got into an onion patch." "Oh, medicine is lucky" (meaning yucky).
So after a lazy Sunday of reading books and playing with toys and talking with dad and taking some naps and baking some bread and eating some dinner and playing with some Halloween stickers, the boys and I decided to have a cow cookie party in the backyard and enjoy the beautiful Texas evening. I have been a long time fan of Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches--cow cookies according to Brig--and it is a special treat when mom decides to share them with any of her boys. So outside we went, cookies we ate, playing the boys did, and pictures I took. The cookie party and playing was followed by a quick bath, a few short stories and a brief goodnight before two recovering sickies closed tired eyes and went to sleep.
It was a very nice lazy Sunday afternoon. I hope you enjoy the chocolate covered slide show as much as we will enjoy our yummy bread--about half of the first loaf is already gone. Come on over and you can have some--flu free.

Glad you are all starting to feel better. That bread looks tasty! And I can't believe how fast the boys are growing. Hope we can see you soon! We love you!
Sick kids, ouch! Sorry, it's even worse when you don't feel so good yourself. Hope you all feel better soon and the ice cream will taste normal again. That bread looks delicious. Love, G
Aw--hope your sickies get feeling better soon. I woke up to Blake telling me he couldn't go back to bed because his blankets had throw-up on them--nice. SO no preschool for him today (made him so sad). Love the pics.
